This play is a dramatic adaptation of Camus' great novel La Peste (The Plague). He captures the angst, the boredom, the grief, the heroism, the spiritual questioning, the villainy, the courage, and the longing evoked by the plague and quarantine. His characters are very vivid and, in their dialogue, try to make sense of the human condition and the catastrophe that has befallen them. The work captures man's profound helplessness in the face of natural and man-made disasters, the visitation of which reveals the eternal precariousness of our existence.
